Sharjah: Police have arrested a young man for allegedly cheating a CID officer. A 32-year-old man has been arrested in the Sharjah industrial area. Sharjah Police Criminal Investigation Division Director Col. Omar Ahmed Abu Al Saud said they first received reports that an unidentified man was stealing money and other belongings from people posing as police officers.
Police have formed a special team of CID officers to track down the fake CID. The man was later identified and arrested during the ensuing investigation. When questioned, the young man pleaded guilty. Colonel Abu al-Saud said his method was to stop passers-by and introduce himself as a CID officer and steal money and other belongings from them.
Authorities have asked the public to show them identification documents instead of blindly obeying what people who introduce themselves as police officers say. He said police officers are not asked to show anyone’s purse to take money. The aim of the Sharjah Police is to protect the people. He urged the public to co-operate with the police and report any suspicions, threats or thefts.
