UAE – The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security has announced that the new generation Emirati passports are going to be issued starting September 1. These new passports represent a technological breakthrough that unifies various government services and moves towards smart government.
These passports were issued in conjunction with the Emirati passports of the new generation and the UAE passport national identification card projects, which were launched in June. Ali Mohammed Al Shamsi, the Chairman of the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security, stated that the New Generation Passport was born to realize the government’s vision of strengthening and providing UAE identity using innovative technologies.
Several Features in New Generation Passport
He said that the project would make it easier to do business with people from different institutions in the UAE, increase quality of life, and offer a unique travel experience that will strengthen the UAE’s position as a leader.
In line with any future directives issued by governments around the globe, the authority will expand and improve its services. The government also rejected attempts to create the Emirati passport in a new form. Polycarbonate is used to print the identification page. This ensures that all security measures are taken into account for the owner. It helps to protect photos and security marks from being lost. Laser technology is used to produce high-quality passports that can be easily processed at passport port.
An old passport is valid until it expires and can be used for travel. You can apply for renewal if you enter within six months of the expiry date. Passport renewal services are available through the UAEICP Smart Application or the website www.icp.gov.ae.
