Jeddah: The second phase of localization of supermarkets and restaurants in Saudi Arabia will take effect tomorrow. Indigenization will be carried out 100 per cent in section supervisors, departmental supervisors, accounting-fund supervisors, customer service and customer accountants in sales outlets and 50 per cent in departmental managers, branch managers and assistant branch managers. This is an area where many Indians, including Malayalees, work.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has warned that strong action will be taken against non-compliant institutions. The second phase will be implemented after the end of the 360-day grace period sanctioned by the Ministry. The localization will apply to all catering stores with an area of not less than 300 square meters and supermarkets with an area of not less than 500 square meters.
