Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan was a ruler who was always close to the Indians in Dubai and the Indians in the UAE. Sheikh Khalifa has been the ruler of Abu Dhabi since its accession to the Crown. When he was crowned in 2003, the then President of India, APJ. Sheikh Khalifa met with Abdul Kalam in Abu Dhabi. In 2010, the then President of India Pratibha Patil visited the UAE at the invitation of Sheikh Khalifa. Sheikh Khalifa was also the recipient of the UAE’s highest civilian award, Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shah Jahan Madampat, an official with the UAE National Media Council, said that the establishment of diplomatic relations with Israel under the leadership of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan would go down in history during the time of Sheikh Khalifa.
Indian Embassy and Consulate in mourning
Dubai: The Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Indian Consulate in Dubai hoisted the national flag in mourning following the death of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He also tweeted that the embassies that condoled the death of Sheikh Khalifa share the grief of the country and its people. All major events in various emirates, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi, have been canceled in honor of Sheikh Khalifa.
