Doha: Ministry of Home Affairs confirms that the employer is responsible for the costs of repatriation of expatriates within a certain period. This was done in response to a tweet that had been circulating on social networks about the repatriation costs of expatriates. The authorities confirmed that the tweet was in compliance with Act No. 4 of 2009, and that the law was repealed.

Article 49 of Act No. Article 19 of this Act outlines the rules for expatriates arriving, departing and staying in the country.

These are the new conditions:

The expatriate employee must be deported if he or she is employed by another company that violates the law. The expatriate must pay the entire cost if he doesn’t know the name of the institution. The recruiter will be responsible for the expense if the expatriate doesn’t have enough money to return home. The employer is responsible for all expenses incurred by the employee if he or she is to be returned to work, even if he or she was not directly recruited in violation of the Act.
