Abu Dhabi: With the start of the long Eid holiday in the UAE, the intercity bus journey is in full swing. The line of passengers arriving to travel to different emirates stretched around the bus station. Many waited for hours to board the bus. From Abu Dhabi Central Bus Station to Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, it was very busy on Friday evening. Dubai was the busiest.

Buses to Abu Dhabi also ply from the Dubai Ibn Battuta station area. Passengers were shocked that many of the intercity buses that were stopped following Covid did not resume. Many commuters on their way to Abu Dhabi from the easily accessible Al Ghubaibah (Bardubai) bus station in the city center returned disappointed. They then took the metro to Ibn Battuta Mall, where they waited for hours and boarded the bus.

Intercity buses from Dubai to Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah and back to the emirates also experienced moderate congestion. Passengers demanded that an additional bus service be introduced in view of the busy Eid holidays.

The demand was made by people who are going to celebrate the festival with relatives and friends from different emirates. The average fare for a long-distance bus journey is 25 dirhams. But fake taxi drivers are taking advantage of areas where there is a lack of bus services. They charge around 50–100 dirhams for a parallel service.
