All about GCAA
Federal Cabinet Decree (Law 4) created the General Civil Aviation Authority in 1996 to regulate Civil Aviation. It also provides designated aviation services. The emphasis is on safety and security. To serve the northern Emirates, the main office is in Abu Dhabi. The regional office is in Dubai. The GCAA is the UAE’s sole authority for civil aviation regulation and control. It is responsible for providing en-route navigation services as well as all aspects of flight safety.
The GCAA’s new Air Navigation Centre, The Sheikh Zayed Centre was opened in late 2009. It is the most advanced and technologically advanced centre in the world in terms of design. The United Arab Emirates (represented by GCAA) is an active member of the Council of the International Civil Aviation Organization, (ICAO), and its specialized commissions. It is also a member the Arab Civil Aviation Commission Executive Council. Currently, H.E. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi is Director General of GCAA.
