Abu Dhabi ∙ The body of the late UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan has been buried. The burial took place at Al Buteen Sheikh Sultan Bin Zayed Mosque in Abu Dhabi. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the UAE Armed Forces, paid his last respects. Al Nahyan family members also joined him. Funeral prayers were held in churches across the country after Maghrib yesterday. Citizens and expatriates, including Indians, gathered to pray for the UAE President. Mourning was declared in India today.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, 61, the half-brother of Sheikh Khalifa, is the heir apparent to the crown of Abu Dhabi. He is also the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the UAE, who has been in power since Sheikh Khalifa fell ill.
Special prayers in temples, shrines and mosques
