ABU DHABI : The Etihad Rail Network‘s first marine bridge has been completed. Etihad reached another milestone connecting Khalifa Port with the rail network. Parallel to the main road, the bridge measures one kilometer in length. Khulud Al-Mazarui, Etihad Rail’s Deputy Project Manager, stated that this will allow goods to move more easily and reduce costs.
The result of more then 10 lakh hours of hard work by 320 workers. After overcoming environmental and climatic challenges like tides, wind speed, direction changes, extreme heat, and humidity changes, the bridge was constructed in record time. From the Saudi Arabia-UAE border, to Fujairah, the Etihad Rail network will connect all sectors, including commercial, industrial, manufacturing and freight. Future rail connections will be made to the GCC. 2015 saw the completion of the first phase for the 265 km rail project. This allows 70 lakh tonnes of goods to be moved each year.

The cargo movement will increase to 5 crores after the project is completed. Currently, 22,000 tonnes of sulfur are transported daily from Abu Dhabi Al Dhafra’s Shah and Habshan gas fields to Ruwais port. A passenger train is being planned for the end of 2024. This plan is moving at a rapid pace. It will eventually be connected to GCC rail. A passenger train can carry 400 passengers at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour.
