Fujairah – Etihad Rail announced plans to construct its first passenger train station along the east coast of UAE. According to Abu Dhabi media, the station will be in the Sakamkam region of Fujairah close to the city centre. Chairman of Abu Dhabi Crown Prince’s Court, Sheikh Tayab Bin Mohammed, and chairman of Etihad Rail, visited Sharjah’s 145-kilometer stretch between Sharjah and Fujairah.
Passenger trains that travel at speeds up to 200 km/h and can transport up to 400 passengers, when the Etihad Rail project is operational, will connect 11 cities and regions in the UAE.Officials have not yet announced the launch date for the passenger service, but they claim that more than 36,000,000 people will use it every year by 2030.
To design, build, distribute, and maintain the long-awaited passenger trains for Etihad rail, a contract has been signed at Dh1.2 billion. This agreement was reached between Etihad Rail, CAF Company of Spain and CAF Company of Spain.
