DUBAI: Dubai police have issued a stern warning not to use or sell fireworks in preparation for Eid al-Fitr. A statement issued by the police said that people should refrain from using firecrackers to ensure the safety of the people during Eid celebrations.

Under Federal Law 17 of 2019, selling, exporting, importing and manufacturing fireworks is a criminal offense in the UAE. Violators face up to a year in prison and a fine of up to 100,000 dirhams, police said. Police have also asked parents to be vigilant against children using hazardous materials to prevent fires in public places and homes. This time the small festival will get a nine-day holiday in the UAE.
