Doha – The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, has said that the Covid pandemic revealed the gap between rich countries and poor. It exposed the extent of the gap between countries and increased it. Amir said that this happens at a time when there are efforts to reduce poverty and achieve development. He urged the international community for a more concrete approach to economic recovery, so that all nations can achieve equal economic recovery.
At the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, the emir spoke at the inauguration the Qatar Economic Forum hosted at Bloomberg. He stated that Qatar’s GDP will grow by 4.9 percent in the coming year. The increase in energy prices, as well as the positive effects of policies and measures taken by Qatar to support its economy, are the reasons for GDP growth.
Recent years have seen a substantial increase in foreign and domestic investment due to legal amendments in economic diversification. In 2021, foreign direct investment (FDI), is expected to increase by 27% compared to 2020. Aamir stated that he anticipates more growth in the future. The address by the Emir to various issues including the Covid, Ukraine’s riots, and the economy ended with a welcoming address to FIFA World Cup.
The inaugural session was attended the Prime Minister Sheikh Khalid Bin Khalifa Bin Abdulaziz Al Thani and other rulers of different countries, diplomats, members, parliamentarians, economists, businessmen, and members of media. The forum’s theme is Equalizing Global Recovery.
The World Cup will increase economic participation
Amir stated that he was certain that the FIFA World Cup in Qatar (Doha) would attract a lot of international players. Qatar and the whole region are working towards hosting the FIFA World Cup. It will be the first such event in the region.
Amir stated that good governance in the countries would open up new opportunities for international economic participation and would also drive the strengthening of the bridge of communication between different types of people.
