Dubai: A young man has been sentenced to two years in prison for stealing money in disguise as a female police officer. He confiscated 6700 dirhams (more than 1.39 lakh Indian rupees) from an expatriate. The fraudster came with an identity card with the Dubai Police logo on it.

According to the case records, the expatriate was hit in the neck and the money in the purse was stolen. The man, disguised as a female police officer, got into the complainant’s vehicle and sat in the front seat. The man was dressed as a woman and covered his face. A white card with the Dubai Police logo was shown. But when he got into the vehicle and started talking, the only thing that came out was the male voice. He was instructed to drive through some of the narrow roads in the area and finally instructed to take out the purse. He was allowed to leave after taking all the money in it.

The complainant said he was not asked for any other identification documents due to fear. Upon receipt of the complaint, the police arrested the accused. He was identified by the victim as an expatriate. The trial court initially fined him 6,700 dirhams and sentenced him to two years in prison. The sentence was later upheld by the appellate court.
