Dubai: A runway at Dubai International Airport will be closed next month for repairs. The repairs are scheduled for 45 days from May 9 to June 22. During this period, thousands of flights will be diverted to Dubai World Central, Dubai’s second airport.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said the runway was being maintained to ensure safety and efficiency. The services will be shifted to Dubai World Central to ease the inconvenience to passengers. Passengers need to know clearly from the airlines which airport they are arriving at and where they are departing from.
Efforts are being made to start repairs after the end of the festive rush and complete them before the summer break. Relatively less crowded time is chosen for activities. The northern runway had undergone such lengthy repairs in 2014. The south runway was similarly closed and repaired in 2019.
